The staff of the Westside Community Schools has developed a broad-based curriculum incorporating exit outcomes, program outcomes, essential learnings, and indicators. These curriculum components have been approved by the Nebraska State Board of Education as equal to or more rigorous than the State Standards. The diagram illustrates the relationship among these components. To view the outcomes, essential learnings, and indicators, select the content area from the list on the left.

Exit Outcome
A statement of significance specifying what students should know and be able to do.
Example:
Students will demonstrate competency in verbal, quantitative, scientific, and technological literacy.

 

Program Outcome
Statements of student knowledge that give direction to the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction in all subject areas.
Example:
Writes clearly and correctly for a variety of purposes and audiences.

 

Essential Learnings
Knowledge and skills students are expected to acquire and demonstrate to meet program outcomes.
Example:
Organizes writing to match intended purpose.

 

Indicators
Statements which provide specific direction for instruction at a particular grade level.
Example:
Develops an introduction, body, and conclusion for a multi-paragraph format (Gr. 7-8)
