WHS Teacher Named the 2013 Nebraska Teacher of the Year

Westside High School math teacher Angela Mosier was named the 2013 Nebraska Teacher of the Year in a surprise announcement at Westside High School on Monday, October 15. The Nebraska Commissioner of Education Roger Breed made the announcement in Mosier's classroom. Mosier has been teaching in the District since 1999. She is a Nationally Board Certified teacher, receiving her certification in 2007. Ms. Mosier will spend the upcoming year traveling throughout the state, serving as an ambassador for Nebraska public education. She will also be recognized at an upcoming ceremony at the White House.

 

Mosier’s colleague at Westside High School, science teacher Judith Stucky, was named one of four finalists for the 2013 Nebraska Teacher of the Year award.  Stucky has been teaching in the District since 2006.  She previously taught high school in Sioux Falls, SD. The Teacher of the Year program recognizes dedicated, skilled, and knowledgeable teachers who inspire all students to learn. These teachers join a long list of current and former Westside teachers who have been named recipients or finalists for the Nebraska Teacher of the Year Award. Previous Westside recipients include Michael Fryda (2010), Brenda Zabel (2005), and Jean LaGrone (1996). Previous finalists include Ricardo Varguez (2008), Pamela Buchholz (2005), Roger Groth (2004/2003), Bob Jenkins (2003), and Carl Clark (2002).
