You Can Control Your Blood Cholesterol Level

Try these heart healthy substitutes:
INSTEAD OF A fast food burger USE The Salad Bar
Bacon Canadian Bacon
2% Milk Skim Milk
American Cheese Low fat cheeses such as mozzarella
Sour Cream Low fat cottage cheese or yogurt in the blender
Butter Tub or soft margarine
Buttering vegetables Vegetables with herbs and lemon juice
Cream or butter sauces Sauces using low fat broth
Chocolate Cocoa
Rich desserts Fruits
Fried foods Baking, broiling or steaming foods
Cooking with animal fats
Cooking with vegetable oils like canola

Don't believe that "cholesterol free" or "100% vegetable oil" on the label means the product is good for you. Many products with these claims are filled with saturated fat (i.e., coconut, palm and palm kernel oil.)

Don't take words like "light" and "lower fat" at face value. Such food may have less fat than similar products, but they can still contain large amounts of cholesterol and saturated fat.
