English Language Learners

The English Language Learner Program (ELL) provides language instruction to students whose first or primary language is not English.  Students receive English language instruction in their neighborhood school with a focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to help them find success in the mainstream classrooms where English is the language of instruction. Students are eligible for this program if their native language is other than English or come from an environment where a language other than English has had a significant impact on their level of English proficiency.  They must have significant difficulty in speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language, that threatens their opportunity to learn successfully in English-speaking classrooms.   Referrals can be made by the family, teaching team, or community members.  English language testing and team input determine specific objectives for each student.  The ELL Program provides services to students who offer cultural diversity and academic excellence to our student body, representing over 30 different countries.
