Foundation Overview

What is a Foundation?

Foundations are nonprofit, charitable, tax-exempt organizations whose primary purpose is to support a wide variety of charitable causes. They are created by gifts of cash, stock, life insurance, property or other resources from individuals, families, and corporations who wish to dedicate some of their private resources toward a specific need or cause.

What is the Westside Foundation?
The Westside Community School Foundation was established to promote and support the continuing improvement of the educational program offered by the Westside Community Schools by (a) supporting programs for which tax funds are not available (b) providing support for improved educational opportunities for teachers, students and employees (c) recognizing excellence through student scholarships and teacher awards and (d) providing a vehicle for contributing directly to the continuance of educational excellence for our children.

Are funds donated to the Westside Foundation tax deductible?
Yes. The Foundation carries the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit designation and therefore all donations are tax deductible.

What are some of the programs supported by the Foundation?
The Foundation currently supports an Early Childhood Education Program at 11 locations within the District, involving 100 teachers and 1000 children. Other activities and projects are curriculum improvement, mentoring programs, parental support activities, facilities improvement, student activities, grants to teachers and staff, scholarships to graduating seniors and donor established scholarships and honorariums.

How can I get involved?
The Foundation welcomes donations in a variety of ways. Tax deductible gifts are welcome in the form of cash, securities, annuities, property, bequests, etc., and can be designated to the general endowment fund or to a specific project or program.
