School Psychology Services

School Psychologists use a problem-solving approach in providing services to students.  Specifically, school psychologists at Westside Community Schools engage in:

• Consultation - School Psychologists work with parents and teachers to (a) define problems and link assessments to interventions, (b) improve educator and parent understanding and implementation of interventions, (c) modify the instructor techniques used with a given student.

• Assessment for intervention/verification - School Psychologists are members of the multidisciplinary team that carry out assessments that are (a) related to the presenting concern, (b) meaningful within an educational context, and (c) easily translated into interventions.

• Behavior Interventions - School Psychologists assist students by developing interventions to improve or resolve the student's problem.  Intervention may focus on the student, family, or educational system.

• Performance Monitoring - School Psychologists provide support and ongoing monitoring of student's academic and behavioral progress toward measurable goals.

• Staff Development - School Psychologists provide information on learning and behavioral support strategies.

• Collaboration and Liaison Activities - School Psychologists collaborate with other professionals (e.g., teachers, mental health specialists, other support staff) to improve services for students.
