June 25, 2021 | District Reduces Tax Levy For 3rd Consecutive Year

Westside:

We hope your summer is going well.  We are busy within District 66 preparing for an amazing 2021-22 school year, conducting summer school, and working on our budget and facilities.

We know that many of our patrons are seeing large valuation increases this summer regarding their homes and property within our school district. Please see the applicable info below.  We take a lot of pride in the work we are able to do for our children with your tax dollars.  Our board of education and senior leadership team continue to work on ways to increase efficiencies as we all work to deal with an over-reliance on local property taxes to fund K-12 education throughout our state.

  • Our current 2020-21 Total tax levy is 2.54 cents LOWER than it was in 2019-20.
  • As our new 2021-22 fiscal year begins on September 1st, we will be REDUCING our tax levy for the 3rd year in a row, leaving voter-approved taxing authority on the table as a way to provide some local property tax relief.
  • We have an average annual spending increase in our general fund of just 2% since 2013-14.
  • Due to our state's school funding formula, Westside is forced to receive over 60% of our total revenue from local property taxes. The national average is approximately 30% and the state average is approximately 52%.
  • We remain committed to reshaping our budget to focus on the retention and recruitment of high-quality staff, innovative teaching and learning initiatives, and facility upkeep while being responsible stewards of tax dollars.

Thank you for your continued support.
