October 19, 2020 | COVID-19 Update For WMS Families

The following message was shared with all Westside Middle School families and staff on October 19, 2020

Good evening,

We wanted to let you know that two students at Westside Middle School have tested positive for COVID-19. As with any positive case in the district, anyone who would have had close contact with a positive case has been notified separately by a phone conversation.

We have case counts, reporting information, and additional details about the district’s COVID-19 response posted in a special section of our website at www.westside66.org. Click on COVID-19 Updates in the top banner.

We ask you to please help us continue the proactive measures we have in place to limit the spread of this virus.

  • Talk to your child about the importance of wearing their mask at school correctly at all times unless during a break, frequent handwashing, and social distancing
  • Monitor your child for symptoms and keep them home if they are ill or may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19
  • Be mindful of activities/events outside of school that may increase your risk for contracting COVID-19
  • If you or your child test positive for COVID-19, please notify us immediately

Thank you for your ongoing engagement and support to keep our school district running as safely as possible.

Good evening,

We have been notified that a staff member working at Westside Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19. As with any positive case in the district, anyone who would have had close contact to a positive case has been notified separately. We encourage you to refer to the document from the Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors (previously sent) outlining what is defined as direct exposure/close contact and what would happen as a result.

Accounting for positive cases reported to the district since school began August 18, our case counts are as follows:

  • 15 student cases, which is 0.24% of all Westside Community Schools and Westside Foundation/ECC students
  • 19 staff cases, which is 1.7% of all Westside Community Schools and Westside Foundation/ECC/Club 66 employees

Based on contact tracing and Douglas County guidelines, the vast majority of the positive cases reported in our district are believed to have been contracted outside of school. If you would like more, we encourage you to visit the COVID-19 section of our website at www.westside66.org

Thank you for your ongoing engagement and support to keep our school district running as safely as possible.
