FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 24, 2023
Westside to unveil Book Vending Machine thanks to community donors
Westside Community Schools is excited to host an official unveiling event of a new book vending machine, thanks to the generosity of Christ Child Society of Omaha. This machine, encouraging excitement and passion for reading within our learners at Westgate Elementary School, is now up and running thanks to a generous investment on behalf of District 66 community members.
The new book vending machine runs on special tokens provided to students by staff at Westgate Elementary School (7802 Hascall St.). All costs of the machine have been made possible by Christ Child Society of Omaha; volunteers have also lined up several reading events there. Another member made an additional donation to buy the books to fill the machine, and an additional $1,000 every year has been committed to the school to refill the machine with books.
Noting that literacy is a powerful antidote to poverty, Christ Child Societies across the country are committed to providing books to children in need across the country. Omaha, and Westgate Elementary, are the third Christ Child recipients to receive a sponsored machine.
Media members are invited to attend a special ribbon cutting and brief presentation on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:00am at Westgate Elementary, 7802 Hascall St. Students will show how the machine works; video and interview opportunities will be available.
