Brett Froendt, 2020-21 Schrager Coach of the Year
Coach Brett Froendt, who is also a longtime teacher at Westside High School, is one of few metro coaches who serves as Head Coach for two Varsity sports; football and golf. In the last five years, Coach Froendt’s golf tams have placed in the top 10, including 5th and 6th place finishes in the last two years. Many Westside golfers coached by Froendt continued playing golf in college and achieved success. Froendt made history in Fall of 2020, leading the Westside Warriors Football Team to a first program state championship in 38 years. Adding to their victory, Froendt and Westside staff hosted the state final at Phelps Field. Colleagues and students describe Froendt as one of the most innovative coaches in the state known for preparing his athletes physically and mentally for each week’s game. Congratulations to Coach Brett Froendt, 2020-21 Schrager Coach of the Year.
Brett Williams, 2020-21 Schrager Assistant Coach of the Year
Coach Brett Williams, who is also a 6th grade teacher at Oakdale Elementary, frequently travels to Westside High School immediately after school to coach student athletes in both football and track. Those who know Williams describe him as a man who epitomizes what a coach is supposed to be, a great role model for his players and a true family man at home. Coach Williams dedicates his time in between sports seasons to further prepare student athletes. He has helped develop many shot putters and discus throwers over the last few years, promoting and ensuring their success during Track season. During football season, Coach Williams focused on the Westside Varsity offensive line, and in 2020, that group was described as one of the best and most dominant in the state. Coach Williams works extremely hard teaching, coaching, studying film and perfecting training techniques to prepare his student athletes for each game. Congratulations to Coach Brett Williams, 2020-21 Schrager Assistant Coach of the Year.
