Warrior Families Respond to Need
The Westside Community Schools Family Resource Center is seeing more need in our community and receiving more donations.
Since Superintendent Mike Lucas asked district residents to help provide food and support for those in need. WCS Social Worker April Anderson says the community has responded, “We have had so many different groups, individuals, schools, alumni, etc. reach out and have dropped off donations. It has been amazing!”

The challenge is to keep the shelves stocked. The center’s inventory turns over several times a day and shows no sign of slowing down. Kim Schenkelberg, Westside Middle School Social Worker says, “We do not see it lessening any time soon because even one month of no SNAP benefits will take families several months to recover from that financial impact.”
Ways you can help:
· Westside Food Pantry. We are accepting donations of non-perishable food items at the ABC Building (909 S. 76th Street) M-F between 9am and 4pm.
· Westside Foundation Donation. You can donate to the “Family Support/Food Pantry Fund” through our foundation.
· My School Bucks Lunch Donation. You can also help WCS students who have fallen behind on their lunch accounts by using a My School Bucks account.
If you, or someone you know in the WCS District needs help, start by contacting your school’s social worker. That list can be found here.
