Westside High School teacher Erin Lunsford is sharing a groundbreaking program with other art educators across the country. Lunsford presented the 'Arts For Me' program, in it's infancy at Westside High School, at the National Art Education Association's annual convention in New York City.
The Arts For Me program was created by Westside educators, including Lunsford, to empower marginalized communities and to increase the visibility and importance of their work. This group of visual art teachers shares a common goal of doing better for alternative curriculum students through adapted art.
"The goal was to share with educators our philosophy and what works for us," said Lunsford. "By presenting this to a national audience, the hope is to create a group of like minded artists and educators across the country to support each other and celebrate our wins, and to problem solve when we need support."
