September 29, 2021 | District Leaders Warn Parents, Students About New 'TikTok Challenge'

Posted September 29, 2021

Parents, guardians, and students of WMS/WHS,

The middle school and high school administrative teams and staff are writing to be proactive regarding the next rumored Tik-Tok Challenge. We would like to share what is being communicated via social media and to also make clear the potential ramifications for participating in these types of behaviors.

The next rumored challenge via social media is the “Slap Your Teacher” challenge. Slapping, hitting, or punching is considered an act of violence and/or an assault and is covered in the Student Code of Conduct in Board Policy and also the Parent/Student Handbook in the returning student registration information. The behaviors described above could result in potential serious consequences, including expulsion.

This is a great opportunity to work with our young adults on making positive choices regardless of social media or other influences. We encourage parents/guardians to communicate with your child regarding this challenge and any other inappropriate/dangerous behavior and the possible resulting consequences. We want to make sure we are working together to create safe spaces for all students and staff to learn and work. Thank you for your assistance.

On behalf of WMS/WHS staff,

Kim Eymann and Jay Opperman
