Westbrook Weekly Update
Greetings Westbrook Families!
A few things to remember:
We dismiss at 3:00 every Wednesday afternoon. Please have a plan for getting your student home at dismissal to give our teachers time for professional learning and collaboration.
There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, September 3rd, and Monday, September 6th. Friday is a Professional Learning Day for staff and Monday is Labor Day.
At Westbrook, you may only park in the handicapped parking spots if you have the proper permit. We are having issues with people parking in the spaces when we have others that need them.
We need your help! We are having an overwhelming number of students tardy each morning. It is important to get your student to school before the 8:30 bell so that they don’t miss instruction. Being 5 minutes late each day equals almost 3 missed days of school over the course of a year.
Mr. Hottovy’s joke of the week was submitted by a fifth-grader this week: What do you call a bear with no teeth? Follow @tyler_hottovy on Twitter for the punchline!
Please see below for a message from our band and strings teacher, Ms. Carpenter Johnson:
Attention Fifth and Sixth Grade Parents:
The Elementary Band and Strings staff will be visiting all 10 buildings the first few weeks of school. During these visits, students will get a chance to hear and explore the musical instruments available to them as beginning band and string students. We invite you to attend our Elementary Instrumental Music Curriculum night in the Westside Middle School Auditorium on Tuesday, August 31 at 6:00 pm. (note time change) Following the meeting, interested students will have a limited opportunity to try out embouchures using single use mouthpiece kits. Since the intention of our mask mandate is to protect the elementary age children, we respectfully require you to wear masks while at this meeting. We hope everyone chooses to BE PART OF THE MUSIC by being a PART OF BAND AND STRINGS!
