2023 Schrager Coaching Award Winners

Westside Community Schools is proud to announce the 2023 Schrager Coaching Award winners!

Jim Simons (Coach of the Year)
Head Coach - Boys Varsity Basketball

 

Since becoming the head coach six years ago, the boys basketball team has flourished. They have been to the state tournament 4 out of the last 5 years and played in 2 semi-final games.  WHS has hosted a district championship 5 seasons in a row. They are one of only 3 Class A teams to accomplish this. He recorded his 100th career win this year. That is fastest of any WHS coach in school history.

Bob has been a coach at WHS for 7 years. His coaching career started as a volunteer. He has coached Fr. Football for 5 years and Reserve baseball for 7 years. He also was a wrestling assistant for 5 years. He coached the JV and Fr teams when he joined the wrestling staff. When girls wrestling was added by the NSAA, this coach asked to lead the program. In 2 short years they ended up as state runners-up this year. He is now working on completing his teaching degree at WHS.
