On December 14, 2017, Westside Community Schools unveiled a new school, Oakdale Elementary. Students and District leaders held a brief ceremony followed by a VIP tour for special guests, including alumni who attended Oakdale in the 1930’s, and a Community Open House.
Oakdale, located at 9801 West Center Road, will open to students in January 2018. The $14 million dollar facility was made possible as part of Westside’s $79.9 million dollar Major Facilities Plan approved by voters in 2015. The new school replaces the original Oakdale Elementary, built in 1871 at 90th & West Center and rebuilt in 1927 at 98th & West Center.
“We are extremely excited for our students to move into these new learning spaces, designed for them and Westside learners for decades to come,” said Dr. Blane McCann, Westside Superintendent from 2012-2019. “We are also grateful for the support of our community, who made this and future projects possible for our District, our teachers, and all of our students.”
