WELCOME TO WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL!
The Westside Community Schools System is an independent public school district located in the Omaha metropolitan area. This school district is suburban and residential with some business and commercial development. The population of the district is composed of mixed income families from skilled, business, and professional socioeconomic orientation. Approximately 39% of our students live in other school districts and choose to attend Westside through our option enrollment policy. Approximately 33.8% of students of our students qualify for the federal free/reduced lunch program.
MODULAR SCHEDULING
Since 1967, Westside High School has used modular scheduling, which incorporates large group, small group, laboratory and independent study mods of instruction. Westside High School is one of approximately 10 schools in the country to utilize this system of scheduling. This allows students to take more courses, have access to teachers throughout the school day, and provides students the opportunity to become independent and responsible learners.
ACCREDITATION AND MEMBERSHIP
Westside High School is accredited by The Nebraska Framework and is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling, College Board, and the National Association for Secondary School Principals.
CURRICULUM
Westside High School offers 23 Advanced Placement Courses and 17 Honors Courses. Our robust and unique curriculum has been proven to prepare students for future success in college acceptance, career readiness and job placement.
SCHOLASTIC OPPORTUNITIES
Westside High School offers numerous enrichment opportunities in which students can pursue academic interests. We collaborate with the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, which offers our students the unique opportunity to take classes in their Zoo Academy. We have a partnership with the UNMC Health Alliance, providing students who are interested in the medical field the option to take classes at the Nebraska Medical Center. Our state of the art Engineering, Welding, and Fabrication Lab provides our students hand on experience and training with local trades industries and professionals. The Nebraska Furniture Mart School of Entrepreneurship provides Westside learners real-life scenarios and practice in business and marketing. WHS also offers opportunities to earn a Seal of Biliteracy, which recognizes students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.
